Contact

Received contact form from a mother asking for help with her 7-year-old’s daily finger pokes for new diagnosis diabetes.

Initial meeting

Conducted virtual 30-minute session to learn more about the family and the specifics of how the child was responding to the frequent finger pokes.

Coping Plan

Created specific coping plan for family, including coping tools for before, during and after the finger poke and was emailed to the parents.

Check-In

Follow-up communication through email with mom check child’s coping and continued reaction to the finger pokes with the new coping plan, and made suggestions for changes to coping plan.

Continued Follow-up

  • diagnosis education
  • identity with the diagnosis
  • sibling support with their personal experience, in changes in the family dynamic and witnessing their sibling
  • talking to peers about the needs of diabetes
